Sarkar 3 Film Review
Ram Gopal Varma is back on the Bollywood big screen with his latest venture Sarkar 3 and it stars Amitabh Bachhcan as the vigilante do-gooder Subhash Nagre, angrier and meaner than the last time you saw him. Both come together after a hiatus of nine years for this film and it is enough to raise your expectations. Can this be a great sequel or will it suffer the same fate as The Godfather 3?
Sarkar 3 looks at power and its attraction as the primary basis for human conflicts. The plot once again deals with multifaceted crisis in Subhash Nagre’s (Amitabh Bachchan) life. The introduction of new characters that are set to create havoc in Sarkar’s life from outside his circle – Govind Deshpandey (Manoj Bajpayee) who plays Sarkar’s rival political opponent, Annu Karkare (Yami Gautam) out to seek revenge on Sarkar by using Cheeku (Amit Sadh), Sarkar’s arrogant grandson Shivaji (Amit Sadh). and Gokul (Ronit Roy), his trusted wing man…Sarkar 3 this time will see much more larger dramatic events and even larger-than-life characters set against a backdrop of one-upmanships, criminal business practices and terrifying conspiracies.
Direction wise Ram Gopal Varma has got a stellar performance from the legend but the supporting cast suffer a little from having their roles under written. The director gives us a superb third film in this political saga. It is a wonderful follow up to first and second instalments. The director has given us a fabulous film where Amitabh is on fire. Music wise the seven tracks, composed by Ravi Shankar and penned by Rohit Teotia, are gripping and the lyrics, powerful. The sound track is thematic and doesn’t fall into the trappings of a typical Bollywood film, but the fact that all the songs follow the same template makes it sound repetitive.
Performance wise Amitabh Bachchan once again proves no one as the vigilante do-gooder Subhash Nagre, angrier and meaner can match his acting prowess. He again gives a totally mesmerizing tour de force performance. His mannerisms, body language and the fire in his eyes give us a brilliant power packed performance from him again. You can simply not take your eyes of him when he is on the screen. Amitabh shows all the pretenders why he is simply the grand master of acting.
The supporting cast of Manoj Bajpayee as the rising politician with views contrary to Subhash Nagre delivers another powerful performance. But we have seen him play a similar role in films like ‘Raajneeti’, so there is no surprise in his performance. Yami Gautam comes across as the most under used character. The trailer showed her as a grey character and but the script lets her down. The wooden Jackie Shroff comes across more as a buffoon as the Dubai-based don, moving the characters back home like puppets. But his character also could have been sketched much better. Amit Sadh as Sarkar’s arrogant grandson does fare a little better as the hot headed pretender to the throne. He is believable in his role and tries to match the acting skills of Amitabh.
Only go and watch Sarkar 3 for Amitabh Bachchan who is definitely back angrier and meaner as Subhash Nagre. He is fantastic in his performance and the die- hard fans will love it Ram Gopal Varma has given the fans a fabulous third act in the Sarkar series. The director has used Amitabh Bachchan as his ace and the film rocks.
Put everything down and go and watch this great film.
Govinda, Govinda, Govinda!!
