ZOOTROPOLIS CONTINUES TO LEAD THE PACK AT THE GLOBAL BOX OFFICE TAKING $592M

THE #1 FILM FOR 3RD WEEK IN A ROW AT US BOX OFFICE

ANOTHER RECORD SET AS THE FILM BECOMES THE HIGHEST GROSSING ANIMATED TITLE OF ALL TIME IN CHINA

Disney’s ZOOTROPOLIS continues its success at the global box office ahead of its UK release this Friday.  The film stampeded over the competition as it posts another huge global weekend estimated at a staggering $102.8M, with the global box office total now standing at an impressive $592M with the UK and Japan still to open.

In North America, ZOOTROPOLIS was again #1 for the third weekend running and crossed the $200M mark at the weekend with strong word of mouth and critical acclaim helping to bolster the release internationally. The film captured the largest three-day opening for a Walt Disney Animation Studio title ever – surpassing the $67.4M 3-day record previously held by Frozen.

ZOOTROPOLIS also enjoyed strong openings in Australia and Brazil at the weekend while the Ukraine opening was the 2nd highest Disney opening ever (animation and live action).  In China, Zootropolis grossed an estimated $38.6M for the weekend to take its estimated cume to $173.4M, surpassing Kung Fu Panda 3 in that territory.  The film also continues to perform well in Europe, with Germany and Austria notably as the film still tops the box office in their third week of release following record breaking openings.

The comedy crime caper about a modern mammal metropolis where predator and prey live together in harmony has been continually getting rave reviews from critics and is also proving a big hit with audiences who have given the film a Cinemascore of ‘A’ in the US and a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 99%.

“Destined to become another Disney classic” – Ali Plumb, BBC Radio 1

“A slam-dunk candidate for best animated feature in next year’s Oscars” – Toronto Sun

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootropolis is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighbourhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything.  But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootropolis,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in cinemas 25th March 2016.
