Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Salazar’s Revenge Dvd Review
Prepare to set sail in what could be the last swashbuckling adventures of our favourite Captain Jack Sparrow on the high seas.
Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea-notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.
Director Joachim Rønning keeps the adventure and thrills coming at a frantic pace in this action packed thrill-a-minute addition to the block buster franchise. The tone of this film is kept to the blue print of the first film. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Salazar’s Revenge will appeal to all the family and we do look forward to the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow who is back to his best in this film.
Performance wise Johnny Depp as the iconic character has lost his mojo, he can’t even be on the water. Sparrow’s role in the film mirrors his role in the original, where Jack is not the main character, the story is about real people, real characters – and then Jack Sparrow comes in and crashes the party every now and then. He is firing on all cylinders and he steals the show in every scene he is in. The one-liners he uses simply bring the house down each time with a very appreciative audience loving it. The film goes into the back story of Sparrow and uses CGI to de-age Depp, and still honour the mythology of the franchise.
Javeir Bardem as Captain Armando Salazar gives a great performances as the powerful and maniacal undead pirate hunter of the Spanish Navy who was trapped in the Devil’s Triangle. After escaping, he seeks the Trident of Poseidon to wipe out all piracy and exact revenge on his old enemy, Captain Jack Sparrow. Bardem set out to imbue the character with a rage based on dented pride, the character is a wounded bull, owing to his spectacular fall from grace, going from a high ranking commander of a Spanish fleet to being betrayed and trapped in hell by Sparrow, who is the reason for Salazar holding that revenge in his body for eternity. He gives another final turn as a villain in this summer blockbuster..
The supporting cast of Brenton Thwaites as a young man who tries to reconnect with his father. He struggles to break a curse that is preventing him from doing so.
Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth:is a feisty, altruistic astronomer. The character is an academic, she’s fighting for the right to study at university, because women couldn’t at that time. So she’s on her own journey – looking for the trident of Poseidon – and she has a diary with clues. We also get great turns from the returning Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Salazar’s Revenge is a fabulous summer blockbuster .Johnny Deep is looking hotter than ever in his iconic role and is given a great run for his money by Javier Badrem. Put everything down and go and enjoy a summer blockbuster that has all the elements we have come to expect from the Pirates films , as this could well be the swan song of the adventures of Jack Sparrow!;
